Design is at the heart of the course development process. Nothing can save a bad design - neither an awesome strategy or a Pixar-level developer. A good design lives at the intersection of a solid strategy, accurate data and content, and sound instructional theories. At the end of this process, we have a blueprint for an effective learning experience that is engaging, challenging, and most of all, meets the needs of the organization.
Our design process is flexible, but we generally follow the four steps below.
Step 1: Define
Identify and define the current state, the desired state, and the performance gap between them. Gather the content needed to, in part, support the desired performance.
Step 2: Design
Create a blueprint that describes the experience learners will have during the course. The design document typically includes the course order, an overview of the content, and descriptions of course interactions.
Step 3: Develop
Develop the course as described in the design document. This step includes several review processes to ensure that the content is accurate and that the course design facilitates both learning and a positive overall experience.
Step 4: Deliver
Create and deliver the final version of the course to the client. This step includes quality assurance testing, LMS testing, and making any final updates.
